Chris Brown; Self Control Man!

Author: Daniel Asamota

Over the past couple of weeks I've been on one blog after another reading about Chris Brown and commenting where I could on the issue and all of it in HIS favor. The arguments were often heated and seemingly very personal and I stood my ground firmly because I thought Chris was being treated unfairly considering his age and the fact that Rihanna has since ADMITTED to being the progenitor of this violent episode. The picture TMZ passed around looked doctored to me and the LAPD seemed quite determined to file charges against him inspite of the fact that Rihanna apparently didn't want to press any charges. Then this backlash in the media seemed to me to smack more of prejudice than simply reporting the news for in the mainstream media they made the story as horrible as they possibly could and seemed determined to portray this young man as some sort of 'monster' who beats women if they look at him wrong and I steadily got the impression that they were trying to use him to make some sort of statement about all men of African descent suggesting that we were violent womanbeaters who took glee in such things. That may not have been the intent but that was the impression that I got and I didn't like it one bit. Then all these predictions about the END of his career, I mean they didn't say that when Tommie Lee of the rock group Motley Crue jumped on Pam Anderson or Rick Springfield when he had an altercation with his wife. So why were they saying this about this young kid who was just becoming an adult? He made a mistake yet they're trying to tell everyone in the world to give up on him, something they wouldn't do I believe if it was one of the Jonas Brothers. His life doesn't have to come to nothing over ONE mistake and whoever says different is a liar! He messed up good that's for sure but everyone makes mistakes in life and we recover and move on from it hopefully having learned something. Lindsey Lohan has been getting into trouble in her personal life for a while but no one is talking about her career is over! And what about Britney Spears and her problems and she came out a career slump and is bigger than ever now! No one trumpeted on every news outlet possible the demise of her career.  So with things like this I was inclined to defend the young lad for it seemed the sky was trying to fall on him and he needed to know that all that was out there wasn't true and that he still had plenty of support and people who believed in him and are willing to give him as many chances as he needs til he gets it right.

Now with that said I do want to say this: Chris, you shouldn't beat on women. Period. I can understand if a woman is trying to stab you with a knife or got a gun on you trying to kill you, but if she's just trying to fight you unless you got an Olympic athlete on your hand or Lalah Ali (in that case I would suggest running) most men are strong enough to stop a woman without doing undue harm to her. If you're not, hit the gym.  I've had women try to fight me and I didn't stand there and take no beating but I didn't beat the crap out of them either. I simply used enough force to STOP them from hitting me and in some cases I SHOWED them how much damage I could do to them if they kept it up, and after that I never had a problem again and I never had to hurt any of them. There is much for you to learn as an adult, as a man and self control is one of the most important things to acquire. Yeah, I know sometimes you can be pushed to your limit, but dude after that fight in the restaraunt you should have called her a cab or something and went on to the Grammy awards to do your job. Just walk away. You see that's where you went wrong too; if you had have been at work where you're supposed to be, you probably would have avoided this whole sordid episode. The decisions we make often determine our path in life be it good or bad and sometimes the wrong step can take us miles out of our way and years to get back on track. I'm not going to lie, you have really screwed up and this one mistake which has already cost you millions of dollars, may also cost you a serious setback in your career goals, and most importantly your freedom! But don't feel to badly because you're young yet and still learning so you'll get past this. I was glad to read in your statement that you were talking to your pastor but you need to pray to God for His Grace and make it up in your mind that with the exception of extreme situations that you will NEVER EVER EVER HIT A WOMAN AGAIN! Self-Control man, that's the key word here self control! Learn it, live it, and be it!
