IPL (Indian premier league) – A Glimpse

The Indian Premier League is also known as the "DLF Indian Premier League" and is abbreviated as IPL. It is a Twenty20 cricket competition created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and chaired by the Chairman & Commissioner IPL, BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi.

The bidder's of the IPL are as follows.

• Royal Challengers Bangalore – Vijay Mallya
• Deccan Charges -  Deccan Chronicle
• Chennai Super Kings – India Cements
• Delhi Daredevils – GMR Holdings
• Kings XI Punjab - Ness Wadia (Bombay Dyeing), Priety Zinta, Mohit Burman (Dabur) and Karan Paul (Apeejay Surendera Group)
• Kolkata Knight Riders - Red Chillies Entertainment (Shahrukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Juhi Chawla and J Mehta)
• Rajasthan Royals - Emerging Media (Lachlan Murdoch, A.R Jha and Suresh Chellaram), Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra.

The first season of the Indian Premier League was commenced on the 18 April 2008, and ended on 1 June 2008 with the victory of the Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

The tournament started on 18 April 2008 in Bangalore and lasted for 46 days with 59 matches scheduled, out of which 58 took place and 1 was washed out due to rain. Rajasthan Royals emerged as the inaugural IPL champions.

In India, IPL has become very popular and the 2nd Session of it was scheduled in the year 2009 in South Africa as the IPL coincided with the general elections of India. Deccan Charges were awarded as the winner of the tournament.

• 2008 IPL – Lakshmipathy Balaji  and Victims - Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla, VRV Singh For Chennai Super Kings against kings XI Punjab – 1 Hat trick (10th May 08)
• 2008 IPL – Amith Mishra and Victims - Dwaraka Ravi Teja, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha For Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Charges – 1 Hat trick (15th may 08)
• 2008 IPL – Makhaya Ntini and Victims - Sourav Ganguly, Debabrata Das, David Hussey For Chennai Super Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders – 2 Hat trick (18th May 2008)
• 2009 IPL – Yuvraj Singh and Victims - Robin Uthappa, Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis For Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers Bangalore – 1 Hat trick (1st May 2009)
• 2009 IPL – Rohit Sharma and Victims - Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh, JP Duminy For Deccan Charges against Mumbai Indians – 1 Hat trick (6th May 09)
• 2009 IPL – Yuvraj Singh and Victims - Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds, Venugopal Rao For Kings XI Punjab against Deccan Charges – 2 Hat trick ( 17th May 09)

The 3rd Session of IPL is scheduled for 12th March 2010 and continues up and till 25th April 2010.
